Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains many luxuries aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
