Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
